SoCon Tournament Time

It looks like we have a bad draw but hopefully the Mountaineers will take the tournament court loaded for bear. (that sounds very mountaineer-ish - Daniel Boone with his musket loaded and ready to kill him a bare.) Bears, Spartans, what's the difference?
I find some comfort in knowing that the AP and others have finally acknowledged Davidson as a powerhouse. #25 ain't half bad for a SoCon team.
The argument could be made that Davidson is to Division 1 basketball what Appalachian State is to Division 1 football.

Weekend blahs for the Black and Gold

Although I know I should be, I'm none too fond of moral victories and team building experiences. The Black and Gold was toast on the hardwood this weekend. I do get a little satisfaction knowing that the RJ Reynolds High School Demons ruled school in their baseball opener.

On the bright side, the Appalachian State football team started sping practice today. I have full confidence that Jerry and staff will fill our 7 vacancies with awesome players.

Houston, we have a problem

I went to the UNCG v ASU game this afternoon with high hopes for the team. All the elements were in place for a good road win...the M family and their entourage were sitting right in front of us (the Mountaineer football team is something like 13-1 when we are sharing crowd space. I thought it would translate to the basketball team.), there were plenty of ASU fans in the crowd sporting their black and gold, UNCG had not won their last few games and I thought our team would be fired up.
Sad story.
I didn't witness Coach Fancher doing any real coaching, Clayton was asleep and I think Minter had on concrete shoes. It was a train wreck of enormous proportions.

Definitely a football school

The Mountaineers (10-4 in SoCon) beat The Citadel (0-13 in SoCon) in OVERTIME this afternoon. This follows our DEFEAT on Thursday from 4th ranked (in the north division) College of Charleston. Let's face it...we are a horribly inconsistant basketball team that stands virtually no chance of winning the SoCon (I mean, do you REALLY think we can beat Davidson?) and we do not deserve to go to the NIT much less the big dance. I say we call it a season and wait patiently for football.

I am forced to opt for basketball

I thought I was going to be in a quandary tomorrow. Should I watch and record (because I don't know how to watch one thing and record another) the ASU v Chattanooga basketball game or watch and record the senior bowl game in hopes of seeing Dexter Jackson impress the NFL scouts? It turns out there is no decision to be made because I don't get the NFL Network. Poor Dexter. He will have so much going against him...I can't watch and he doesn't get to wear his number. Why should he have to give up #2 and wear #19? He is, after all, faster than those guys from Houston and 'Bama who ARE wearing #2. Anywho, I imagine Dexter will do just fine without me. I hope I will get to see the Mountaineers take their 8th straight win on the hardwood.
It looks like the state's other black and gold will have a staff shakeup. WFU assistant Jeff Mullen decided he wanted to be a Mountaineer of a different flavor. I feel certain Coach Grobe will find a worthy replacement. What I don't understand is why three assistants have now left.
